Wasting time, energy, and emotions on illusions causes discontent

Someone says or does something; suddenly a worrisome thought spawns in our mind. We unconsciously react, thus giving power to the false idea that this is a real problem. Thus starts the building crescendo of emotions and thoughts about the false problem. As we mature, we learn to pause and evaluate if we are facing a real threat or an illusion by asking four key questions:

  1. Is it a real threat to my well-being?
  2. Is it my responsibility to solve?
  3. Can I do anything about it today?
  4. Do I really need to solve this?

If it does not threaten our physical, mental, or spiritual well-being, or if we’re not really responsible for it, or if we cannot take an action on it today, or if it is a minor concern and we do not need to take an action, THEN IT REALLY IS NOT A PROBLEM TODAY, SO LET IT GO. If it qualifies as a problem at some future time, deal with it then. Don’t waste time, energy, and resources dealing with non-problems. Release the illusion, face the day with equanimity and poise, free of all fear.

Prayer: Dear God, the power that created and upholds the universe and dwells within me, help me to pause and not react to everything that happens; give me the strength to resist participating in the turmoil created by my mind; replace all discontent with the awareness of your love and the absolute assurance that with your guidance and strength, I can face any adversity and overcome any obstacle.

Take three relaxing breaths; ask your inner spirit to guide your meditation; reflect on the content, pausing for a few minutes in silence.
