Would you rather be happy or right?
Sometimes we may feel a need to prove our self “right,” to win a disagreement to make the other person realize that we are knowledgeable or important. We may need to be right because we don’t have enough self-worth to accept that we might be wrong; we may not understand that it’s ok to be wrong, that making mistakes does not diminish our value as person or as a child of God.
When we feel good about our self, we are more patient, tolerant, and loving with others; when we don’t have that void inside of us that yearns to be filled, we are more accepting, non-judgmental, and caring. This state of healthy self-love removes much of the need to be proven “right” that dominates the self-driven person. We can simply chose to be happy instead of worrying about who is “right.”
Prayer: Dear Gad, thank you for gentleness; I pray that you would help me be gentle with my friends, my family, my enemies, every person I meet today, and myself. Help me not to believe that I have to be right, to prove something, to be better than another person. Guide my thoughts to love, tolerance, and patience and my actions to kindness.
Take three relaxing breaths; ask your inner spirit to guide your meditation; reflect on the content, pausing for a few minutes in silence.
